As we know, recently SIM card data (registration) has been leaked and traded by an account called Bjorkadi in Breached forum. Due to this leak, the All Indonesia Telecommunication Providers Association (Asosiasi Penyelenggara Telekomunikasi Seluruh Indonesia – ATSI) has conducted an in-depth investigation into why this happened.

The data leak investigation process has been completed and ATSI has provided the results to the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo). When asked about this, Johnny G. Plate as the Minister of Communication and Information Technology (Menkominfo) said:

If you want the results of the investigation, ask the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), don’t ask me.

    Johhny G. Plate (Menkominfo)

It’s kinda funny really, why do we have to ask BSSN, while ATSI itself has provided the results of the investigation to Kominfo? We should be thinking more positively about this, and assume that the results of the investigation are still confidential and should not be revealed.

In addition, after being asked to the Secretary General of ATSI, Marwan O. Baasir, he said that there is no illegal access in each operator, such as Telkomsel, Indosat, Smartfren, Three, Axis, and XL. If that’s the case, it means that an insider leaked this important data, or maybe the hacker was so good that he was not detected using “illegal” means.

Regardless, BSSN is currently sending an Incident Response team or Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) for further investigation. If they get any more information about this leak, they will report it immediately.

Hopefully, this incident will quickly find a bright road, because currently all of this data is still in the hands of hackers and is also being traded. Reportedly, the hacker did not sell this SIM card registration data at a high price.

It is quite sad to hear that such important data is not valued highly. It is a very important asset for us. with these assets, our lives can be ruined (if misused, such as fraud and the like).
